Precision Wheel Mapping Tool

Dial-Recon Rig & Core

(Formerly Dial-Pro)

The Dial-Recon Rig & Core are professional tools used for precise and detailed wheel mapping by way of reading high contact points while manually manipulating a dial.

The Dial-Recon system contains two parts, the sensor rig which is fitted with an as5600 rotary encoder, the encoder is paired with a small magnet fixed to the center of the dial face and the sensor positioned directly over it. This setup allows for accurate detection of the dial's position, enabling locksmiths to perform detailed manipulations and achieve precise mapping results. This device does rely on the user's ability to "feel" contact points on the lock during the mapping process.

The second part, Dial-Recon Core companion app allows for logging and viewing of readings.

Dial-Recon merely provides a clean digital presentation of your mapped data on as many charts as you need to fill but with greater resolution than traditional pen and paper... Click a button instead of following lines, drawing dots, and fumbling with a pencil.

To log readings you use a button interface to set the x coordinate you're checking and press the log button to enter your readings. You can set intervals of 1, 2, or 2.5 and choose the direction to advance, after that you can simply press log at each contact reading or enter on a keyboard if accessing the web app via PC and the application will automatically advance x coordinates using the previously pressed interval and direction after each reading is logged.

Graph data was previously displayed to snap to the nearest 1/16th increment but that was scrapped. Data is not plotted on charts exactly as read to provide more reliable and readable data. Logged readings are also displayed in a list and color coded by most extreme adjacent deviation.

Overlay view allows you to compare multiple datasets across populated charts in a session. This is useful for comparing readings and spotting areas to interrogate further.

Dial-Recon Sensor Rig

Sensor rig components and assembly. Sensor packages come with a fully built rig and 3 dial hubs unless purchasing 3d parts only.

Improved rig design

The new rig design improves your range of motion without sacrificing stability or ease of use.

How It Works

The Dial-Recon sensor rig provides live readings to the Dial-Recon Core companion application. The application is ran on a raspberry pi zero w (or other SBC) which creates a web server for the user interface. This allows you to use whatever device you're most comfortable with, be it a cell phone, tablet, or computer, you can connect to and operate this device via a hotspot, a shared wifi connection, or USB cable.

As with all WLS tools I place a particular emphasis on adaptability for digital tools. I don't feel software should be tied to any one specific device but rather made to be compatible with a wide range of devices and platforms. This project was no exception. In fact this project was created to address accessibility barriers for lock professionals who's eyesight may prevent them from taking accurate dial readings.

How do I get Dial-Recon?

Access to Dial-Recon is restricted for professional use and requires trade verification before it can be obtained. Fill out the application HERE, prior to purchasing access or parts so your order is fulfilled promptly.

Options

If you're tech savy, used to building electronics, and you have a 3D printer, then access might be all you need. If you're used to working with single board computers, this is probably your best value. Access requires a minumum $5 donation (more is encouraged to help keep the project alive and well).

If you've got a raspberry pi but are lacking a 3D printer, I sell prebuilt sensor rigs that are ready to use, with or without sensor and cable. $65 w/ sensor $45 w/o sensor.

If you just want it to work out of the box, I offer pre-built full sets that include the sensor rig, sensor, cable, and a pre-configured raspberry pi zero w. $200

Shipping & handling charges are flat rate in the lower 48 states at $20
